"Hello again, Ms. Jones." Bolt smiled his smiliest smile. "What an utterly wonderful surprise. Imagine running into you again."

He pulled me close, coldly pressing his lips to both of my cheeks in turn, and I shivered.

"What the ficksnit are you doing here?" I looked around, wondering if I should run from this loathsomely unexpected visit or simply deck him. Bolt threw a slightly twisted grin. No doubt it worked on many women, but Hyperia is smarter than that, and I pulled away.

He held onto my hand with a surprisingly strong grip, dragging my arm out as though we were dancing together. "Well, I felt a social visit was in order. After all you went through to get the information for us, Olive Branch owes you a debt of gratitude."

"Are you genuinely grateful?" I said, struggling to keep my voice level.

"Of course. That was a great job you pulled off."

"You can show your appreciation by staying the hell away from me."

"That's no way to talk to an old friend, is it?" Bolt looped his arm around mine again and led me down the corridor. "Let me give you something by way of thanks. Let's have dinner."

"I'm not hungry."

"A few drinks then. There's a charming bar on the next sub-level that serves a passable vodka martini."

"I'm not thirsty either."

"Oh, well in that case, how about sex?"

I stopped walking. "What?"

"I suggested we had sex. You know, two lovers sharing an intimate moment of ludic pleasure and fulfilling the dreams of Eros."

I pushed him back. "That may be how things normally work for you, but this is one girl who isn't going to fall under your spell."

"That is a shame." Bolt tutted several times. "I was rather hoping not to have to drug you."

"Back off, thritface."

"Oh damn, there's your serpentine friend." Bolt pointed to the side of the walkway. "Take the door on the left. Now, if you don't mind."

"I'm not going anywhere with you. We're finished."

Bolt shook his head. "Unfortunately, your obligation to Olive Branch isn't over."

"That's what you think."

I turned to leave, but Bolt held on to me. I twisted away. Stryng was about fifty meters along the passage, and I lifted my hand to wave to him.

Something many people don't know about Lecuundans is that unlike Terrans and many other humanoids, we don't have a visual blind spot. I'm no biologist, but it's to do with the position of our optical nerve. As a result, I spotted Bolt moving closer, something shiny in his hand catching the light. He was too quick for me to respond though, and I felt a sharp stab in my side.

"There we go," he said, placing an arm behind my back. "Let's go through here, shall we?"

He led me to the door he'd indicated a moment ago and opened it without removing his arm from my back. I was completely unwilling to go with him, but my head was overwhelmed by a dizzy euphoria and I was unable to resist. My skin tingled and I realized the changes to my coloration and tentacles were reversing by themselves.
